Paul Schaefer appreciates and understands the Board of Commissioners' responsibility to taxpayers and to those living and building in urban and rural Washington County. Having lived in the county and served as an active planner with the Department of Land Use and Transportation for more than 30 years, he has personally experienced the impacts of Commissioner decisions.
Paul will bring his planning experience and leadership skills to faithfully serve District 4 and all of Washington County. He is committed to listening closely to constituents and seeking guidance from counsel and fellow commissioners as he works to implement his platform—one that will grow and evolve over the next four years.
Work with county departments to develop a plan that identifies essential services and measures the efficiency and effectiveness of budgetary policies and spending in order to propose a streamlined budget that funds essential services.
Work with builders, affordable housing providers, lenders, and staff to develop an action plan that produces affordable housing for Washington County families.
Work with home builders to develop an action plan to produce generational housing units through policies and incentives that motivate builders to provide housing where multiple generations can live together.
Work with Disability, Aging and Veteran Services, businesses, and agencies to ensure adequate funding and resources are available to provide these groups with the essential services they need.
Develop policies and actionable solutions that support existing businesses while encouraging new businesses to call urban and rural Washington County home.
